Great Photo

This is a great photo. Lots of details, great lighting and I can see the reflections in her eyes. I love this pose too.

Good Photo

Again this is a good photo, you can see good detail

Poor Photo

Although this is a lovely photo (Beautiful golden light) it is not great to use for a pet portrait. The subject is too far away and you cant see any details.

Blurry Photo

Aww Bless, poor Jess, she looks so happy with her antlers.

This photo is blurry where she has moved and therefore has resulted in the loss of detail in her head.

  • I cannot stress how much a good photograph impacts on the outcome of a good portrait, the better the photo, the more detailed the portrait.

  • I have shown a few examples of photos to give you an ides of what you should strive to achieve.

  • The best photos are achieved outside or in good natural lighting, when it is not too sunny.

  • Try and get down to your pets level if you can. Its a good idea to have someone stood behind you with a favourite toy or goodie if you can, to get their attention.

  • Be Patient, perseverance is the key. This is my Collie Jess, who is gorgeous (I am biased) but an absolute nightmare to get a good photo of. I have thousands of photos on my phone. The "great" photo is a perfect example of a dream photo to work from, plenty of clear close up details. the "poor" photos, although nice, do not have great detail to work from.

  • Most smartphones have good cameras nowadays, if you don't have one yourself or are not confident using one, ask a friend or family member to help you out. Even better a really good digital camera is ideal.

  • Lastly, don't spend too much time trying to get a good photo all in one go. some animals (just like humans) can be camera shy, or get bored or stressed. Stop and resume again later, or another day. Try to make it fun......... Good luck
